Abstract:
In order to improve the perception of Statistics’ usefulness by the students of the Higher Technical School of Computer Science Engineering (ETSINF) at the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), a teaching innovation project was developed based on the creation of a closed group in Facebook. The students were allowed to comment on different statistical curiosities as well as their application in real life from a selection of texts deposited by the teachers and related to the topics discussed in class. With the purpose of understanding the usefulness of the experience, a survey composed of 18 items (both open and closed responses) was designed. A total of 103 students (out of 127 enrolled) participated in the innovation activity and, of these, 42 completed the questionnaire. The results confirm that the assessment of the activity was positive (76% of the respondents). Likewise, it is noted that the activity has served both to improve the students' previous opinion about the subject (40.5% of respondents) and to perceive a greater use of its contents (88% of respondents).
