Abstract:
The literature provides many studies that analyze the changes in childhood and the characteristics of children on the threshold of their education. In her study, the authoress provides insight into and analysis of teachers’ opinions on children entering their compulsory schooling. The questionnaire research has been aimed to determine the level of agreement with the provided statements. The statements included selected characteristics of children that currently resonate in the society as the indicators of the constantly changing nature of childhood. Using a questionnaire research we acquired feedback from 404 pre-primary and primary education teachers. Each teacher provided feedback to each of the items. The findings indicate that the opinions of pre-primary and primary teachers vary. Based on the results, we can say that the pre-primary education teachers approach several characteristics of children on the threshold of education in a more optimistic way than the teachers of primary education. In conclusion, the authoress deals with the possible causes of differences found in the statements of the pre-primary and primary education teachers. Keywords:
Child, teacher, pre-primary and primary education, teachers’ opinions.
