Abstract:
Attendees will learn useful strategies for classroom engagement including games and activities that learners of all ages love, including use of "the clever quiz", and vocabulary games. We will discuss various ways to enhance a syllabus so students might actually use it, including use of color, quotes and positive, inviting language. By offering a syllabus that is as visually attractive as it is informative, we are encouraging students to refer to it rather than emailing instructors with questions such as, "How many pages does the research paper need to be?", and , "When is the mid term exam scheduled to take place?"

We will examine how the game "Jeopardy" can be used as a fun, excellent review tool for nearly any subject from history to multicultural issues to ethics. We will explore ways to increase student participation through assignment choice and use of creativity in student presentations. Participants will leave with numerous ideas for interesting and challenging additions to their curriculum- and they will be encouraged to implement at least one next semester.
