Abstract:
The issue of social relations in school have been considered from pedagogical perspective since the emphasis is placed on the view of school not only as a place of teaching but also as a human prosocial community. Given the fact that high school pupils spend significant part of their time with classmates and schoolmates, peers have an important place and role in their lives. The quality of social relations between pupils affects their experience in school and it is related to their social, emotional and academic functioning. Depending on the quality of the relationship, peer groups can have both positive and negative effects on the individual and his or her behaviour. The aim of this empirical research was to examine differences in pupils’ perception of the quality of social relations between pupils in school in terms of age, gender and type of secondary school. The data have been gathered by the survey method. The participants were 382 high school pupils. Proceeding from the research results, some recommendations for future research and implications for pedagogical practice are discussed.
