Abstract:
Research evidence suggested that psychological capital (PsyCap) has been increasingly recognized and positively linked with individual productivity. It is a critical factor in motivation, effective cognitive processing and achievement, entailing the positive evaluation of a given situation and the drive to succeed. The existing evidence however is mostly within industrial and business organization employee and little focus is given towards educational organization. Instructional coaches (ICs) specifically, bear multifaceted roles in their profession and face challenges on daily basis. Accordingly, this study aimed to explore the contributing factors relating to the PsyCap of ICs. The researchers conducted phenomenological study scrutinizing the experience of seven instructional coaches, purposefully selected from six different District Education Offices in Malaysia and found that supportive working environment, career background as well as religious beliefs emerges as contributors to ICs’s PsyCap. This study highlighted factors that could develop IC’s PsyCap and suggest future research directions towards developing PsyCap with other groups of ICs, intending to increase their coaching performance.
