Abstract:
Globalization is a trajectory and a natural reflection of the XXI century, also creating and implementing an educational system that provides new directions.
Romania is part of the European space, which corresponds in its policy of educational to the investment programs of research and development.
In recent years school education in Romania brings into question the existence of skills, of some resources which to that time had not been perceived as decisive. One of them is emotional intelligence.
The research is based on the premise that the emotional ability of students, or in other words that they interact and form their behavior according to some kind of emotional stimuli experienced at a young age, represents an important item from which we can start to build a more effective model of education in pre-university education.
METHOD, THESIS AND MATERIALS
The main objectives this research starts from are those aimed at identifying the elements specific to emotional intelligence and the perception of its integration in education encountered in high school. As starters, the experimental design was built with applicability to the pre-university education. Emotional intelligence and personality were considered as independent variables, while quality of education was considered as a dependent variable.
Specialized instruments have been applied on a group of subjects (N = 106), students of the Technical High School "Edmond Nicolau" in Bucharest, in the 9th and 10th grade, during September-November 2008. The group investigated included 74 males and 32 females, aged between 15 and 17 years, the average age being 16.4 years and a standard deviation (SD = 4.11). We point out that the subjects have participated voluntarily in completing the questionnaires, not receiving any financial reward later. Selecting subjects was random.
RESULTS, DISCUSSIONS
In compliance with the principles of an objective experimental design, we started in formulating the basic hypothesis that suggests that emotional intelligence, as a personality trait determines the perception of the quality of education among respondents. Thus, it was considered that the perception of the elements of emotional intelligence, among other factors of personality, generates a good level of perception of the quality of education among the respondents, within the meaning optimizing it. The structure of the research battery included: the questionnaire measuring the level of emotional intelligence (adapted in Romania by Mihaela Roco after Baron Emotional Quotient Inventory - EQ-i ™), the Freiburg personality questionnaire, the scale of perception of educational quality (evidence of our own construction ). From a statistical perspective the stepwise multiple regression was used because it represents an analysis of the existing relationship between variables; using the regression equation we can make a prediction of the scores for perceiving the emotional quality in the situation where there is a high level of existing elements of emotional intelligence of Romanian students. The results obtained allow us to observe that the current approach is just a direction of the study on practical implications in the educational process. Our research, brings proof of the need for emotional intelligence assessment in the pre-university education and urges us to reflection on whether the implementation and development of it in the establishment of pre-university educational environment.
