Abstract:
The system of educational Internet portals was created in Russian Federation in 2002–2004. Due to generality of the resources (educational, methodical, reference, regulatory, etc.) it covers all the levels of education and subject area and is intended for all the categories of participants of educational process. The portal system consists of seven subject area portals (economics, engineering, social sciences, etc.), seven problem oriented portals (open education, international education, unified state examination support and some others) and integrates all educational information in the Federal portal “Russian Education” (URL: www.edu.ru). Federal portal "Russian education" for more than ten years constantly has ranked in the top of Internet resources devoted to education in Russian. The portal contains information on more than 50 thousands of electronic educational resources hosted in Russian Internet, as well as a large number of information resources on various aspects of the educational system of Russia. Daily visitors of the portal view more than one hundred thousand pages. In 2011 there was a peak of portal attendance: the number of unique visitors exceeded 9 million, visitors viewed more than 45 million portal pages.

The standard for educational resources classification and metadata structure was established and used by the Federal portal system, and the above mentioned classification and metadata structure have become the de facto standard for web sites of Russian universities and other educational institutions. One of the main components of the portal “Russian Education” is an integrated directory of metadata descriptions of educational resources in Russian, as well as the system of attribute and context search. Each electronic educational resource has four main attached attributes: educational level, subject area, resource type and class of users.

There are some databases too, e.g. archive of state educational standards, educational institutions database, archive of regulatory and administrative documents of the Russian Ministry of Education.

Description of resources classification and metadata structure and detailed statistics of the portal “Russian Education” accesses will be presented in the proposing paper.
