Abstract:
Many curricula that has been developed in higher education can be considered as digitized books, but many of them have been evolved as e-learning materials – with videos, animations and activities. Teachers introduce these materials into their courses. The blended learning form is one of the most popular learning methods among students and teachers, too. Students should use the developed learning materials effectively.

The teacher’s experiences show in many times that the electronic curricula developed by the teachers are not as efficient as teachers suspect. This presentation examines the gap between the skills that electronic materials require and the students’ knowledge on the field of using electronic learning materials in higher education. We show the result of a survey on the competences on using electronic material, on the affinities of using information technology among the first-year students before they start their study at our university. The self-report questionnaire was filled by four thousand six hundred students before they began the studies at our university. We got and processed data from all fifteen faculties. Based on the results we can conclude that higher education should pay attention developing competences and skills on computer science for their first-year students if they want the electronic materials to be efficient.
