Abstract:
Curriculum of basic IT or computer science always includes teaching word processing. Word processing has a quite low respect even if we do it every day and – of course – it forms part of other fields of computer science, e.g. it is an important element of typography and also of web design. Programmers have to use it in designing human-computer interaction, writing software documentations and users guides, as well as when they write their personal documents.
A survey was performed at the faculty of Computer Science at our university. We have students in different fields of computer science, as well as of mathematics and library and information science. In this survey we examined how students think about word processing. We analyzed what kind of differences can be found in the opinion, the method of approach to using and learning word processing of girls and boys. By analyzing the similarity and differences of boys and girls on this area we get useful information for designing e-curricula, especially e-learning materials. The aim of this paper is to examine some aspects of differences in education by gender at a computer science faculty for getting helpful and beneficial data for ameliorate e-learning materials.
