Abstract:
Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) is one of the leading universities in Indonesia and is still finding its way among more established universities globally. In becoming a world-class university, ITB applied for international accreditation for several undergraduate programs since 2010. Just like the first voyage to strange water, there was no strict guidance. Thus, each program chose its accreditation agencies. These include ABET, ASIIN, and JABEE. In this case, every accreditation has its approach and guidelines.
During the first couple of years into the accreditation schemes, each program separately managed its quality assessment, one of its purposes was to prepare for the international accreditation. However, it was soon realized that the assessment should cover the first-year ITB students. In ITB, these students studied the basic Math, Physics, Chemistry, and General Education courses for two semesters in a Common Preparatory Level (CPL). Only upon completing the CPL can students select and join their intended undergraduate programs.
This condition required a unified assessment method in the CPL to be translated and combined into various accreditation schemes. This paper shares the experience of the ITB Quality Assurance Unit on coordinating with the lecturers of CPL courses, so they could prepare and conduct assessments that later could be converted into various accreditation schemes. The unified assessment has been conducted between 2015-2020, and it served more than ten undergraduate programs in ITB during their preparation for international accreditations.
