INTERRELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN TEACHER JOB SATISFACTION AND ELEMENTS OF ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE

Abstract:
The rapidly changing environment and changes taking place in it promote educational institutions to look for solutions on how to successfully adapt to the ongoing changes and achieve expected performance results. To achieve that the educational institution becomes successful and strong, it is important to create an environment in which all members would share common values and approaches that help to create an inspiring work atmosphere ensuring employee loyalty and commitment to their professional activities. The results of many conducted studies prove that organizational culture influences both individual and group behaviour and is one of the ways of organisational management when managers together with employees create shared values, norms, stories and traditions, which leads to teachers’ job satisfaction. In fostering organizational culture, it is important that all members of the organization find common aspects that would positively influence not only performance indicators but also strengthen employee job satisfaction and confidence in the organization.
The aim of the research is to reveal the interrelations between teachers’ job satisfaction and elements of organizational culture. The quantitative research methodology, using closed-ended questionnaires on job satisfaction and organizational culture, was chosen. The results are analysed employing descriptive statistics and correlation statistical methods. Applying purposive and convenience sampling methods, the study involved teachers working in different type institutions of one region of Lithuania (non-formal pre-school and formal general education institutions).
The results of the study reveal the teachers’ identified peculiarities of manifestation of such organizational culture elements in their educational institutions as strategic planning, interpersonal relationships and relationships with the manager, physical assessment of the environment, different artefacts (rituals, ceremonies, traditions, language, stories), career and development opportunities, norms and principles of behaviour, congruence of personal and school values, etc. Trends in teachers’ job satisfaction, encompassing satisfaction with the received salary and the possibilities of its increase, promotion and acknowledgement opportunities, satisfaction with immediate supervision, relationships with co-workers, developed rules and procedures, internal communication, are also presented. Research results reveal the interrelations between the elements of organizational culture and the factors of job satisfaction as prerequisites for improving organizational culture at school in order to achieve teachers’ more positive satisfaction with their job.Keywords:
