Abstract:
Information and communication sciences place emphasis on the reception, processing and interpretation of information during the communication process. The determinant that regulates the outcome of the communication process is the attention of the individual. The impact of auditory stimuli on attention, and thus the outcome of the communication process, is still insufficiently researched. By conducting psychophysical research, it is possible to determine the characteristics of stimuli and their impact on the outcome of the communication process. The topic of this paper is the analysis of perceptual attributes of auditory stimuli, primarily the strength, frequency and duration of stimuli on the outcome of the communication process in children with attention deficit disorder. By comparing subjects from the experimental and control groups, the average time required to respond to the auditory stimulus will be obtained. With the analysis of the obtained results of experimental research, insight into the communication processes of children with ADHD is obtained, principally about the specifics in the detection, discrimination and interpretation of auditory stimuli. At the cognitive level, the scientific contribution was achieved by presenting the specifics of perceptual attributes of auditory stimuli on the outcome of the communication process in children with ADHD, and at the methodological level through the development of original methodology for qualitative comparison of perceptual attributes of auditory stimuli in experimental and control groups by applying statistical parameter analysis. At the practical level, inventiveness of this study is demonstrated through the application of the obtained results with the aim of more successful communication with this group of respondents. Moreover further guidelines for creating a unique theoretical framework for understanding the relationship between auditory stimuli and attention disorders were developed.
