Abstract:
The decision is meant to be a fundamental element of managerial activities, as an expression active, dynamic management, through which it fulfills its functions. In current conditions, higher education institutions are creators of specialists who will lead the society and the economy of European Union states in the near future. Decisions taken in the field of education have a much more complex nature than in other social and economic fields, because the educational activities, scientific research, focus on the individual training over a multitude of aspects. The function of decision-making in a higher education institution involves providing all information for the decisions’ initiation, substantiation and implementation. This is manifested in a dual manner, regarding both the functional side of the institutions, and the terms of the educational-formative and research processes. In this paper we present a number of aspects regarding decision-making in academic environments, emphasizing the situation of Babes-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca, and the implication of information technologies like decision support systems in the managerial processes.
