Abstract:
The process of implementing a European Higher Education Area, completed in 2010, marked a significant change in relation to the university educational paradigm and prompted the design of competency-based training curricula.
In the Nursing degree, the competencies that future nurses have to acquire are regulated by statutes and each university develops its curriculum in accordance with those statues and regulations. In the case of the EUI Gimbernat, attached to the UAB, the design and objective of the competencies is to encompass in the four year degree varied types of active learning methodologies, in order to develop a significant apprenticeship curriculum.
In the work that follows, we explain the teaching strategies designed to ensure the achievement of the competencies in the subject called Simulation Training Program (PPS) in the 1st and 2nd year of the 4 year Nursing Degree .
The PPS aims to develop the acquisition of competencies related to the performance of nursing procedures in simulated learning environments.
The competencies to be developed are:
1) oral and written communication,
2) Analysis and problem solving,
3) Critical Thinking,
4) Teamwork,
5) self-learning.
The development of these competencies is placed under the Blended learning methodology that includes the combination of pedagogical Modalities such as online and face-to-face instructions; utilizing the strategies of Flipped Classroom, Clinic simulations, Video feed-back and debriefing, self and co assessment by rubrics, learning process reflection.
Blended learning gives us the possibilities to develop different nursing program competencies, changing the student role with; autonomous learning, experimentation, clinical practice, analysis and correction of one’s own mistakes, promoting teamwork and developing reflexive and critical thought processes. Keywords:
