Abstract:
In this essay I´m trying to show the relevance of the Festera Music, the music performed in Moors and Christians parties, in the classroom and his application in the process of education also learning as a way to appreciate his didactic value and to verify if it facilitates the learning of the musical contents in comparison with the Classical Music. It is a question of systematizing this significant information to be able to bear it in mind in order to formulate proposals on its study or to elaborate “curricular” material to work it in the classroom.

This study is typified as an evaluation of needs referred to the area of the musical folklore and its didactic. In order to develop that, two didactic units were elaborated, one about Music of Moors and Christians and another related to Classical Music. As it appears clearly in the different Decrees that establish the minimal contents of the stage of Secondary Education and the subject of music, the respect and the valuation of the Community´s folklore, as well as the recognition of the wealth of the cultural Valencian patrimony is a constant in them. The development of the didactic unit about Music of Moors and Christians will allow the pupils to think of that kind of music, a better understanding of the musical fact and a higher level in their skills for the aesthetic valuation of musical works. In this way we contribute in the attainment of aims j) and l) of the Order ECI/2220/2007, that indicate what the pupil has to know, to value and respect the basic aspects of the culture, as well as the art and cultural heritage, to estimate the artistic creation and to understand the language of different artistic manifestations.

Through the didactic unit about Festera Music, we bring over Moors and Christians´ party to the classroom in Secondary schools so that the students can know and feel that music from a different point of view because of living this experience “in situ”. In this way we want to verify that the use of Festera Music implies students are able to work in the classroom musical elements in the same way as we do with Classical Music. It exists an curricular emptiness around this type of music that it is necessary to fill, apart from an absence of materials adapted to the students and suitable to work in the classroom.

To sum up, we have worked on Moors and Christians Music, its characteristics, the main musical genres, the group of instruments that performs this music and the most important composers who have influenced the development of this art. Definitively, it is claimed that students extend their musical universe across the valuation and the respect for the Festera Music as theirs and for the wealth of Valencian Community´s musical traditions that, is a part of the musical patrimony and it supposes a fundamental aspect in the history of the Valencian people.

At the same time we work equal musical elements across the second didactic unit, but using Classical Music to verify that Moors and Christians´s Music is a really interesting didactic material and so useful, as Classical Music is, to work with secondary school´s students.
