Abstract:
The aim of the following research work is focused on analyzing the financial competences of the Spanish adult population and assessing them according to the scheme established by the EU/OECD International Network on Financial Education. The analysis is carried out from the three dimensions that make up a competence a) Awareness, knowledge and understanding b) Skills and behavior and c) Confidence, motivation and attitudes. The sample is taken from the survey prepared during 2016 and 2017 by the National Central Bank of Spain (BdE) and the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV) within the framework of the Financial Education Plan and the National Statistical Plan. Likewise, the analysis is replicated with data from the survey on financial behavior and education of Spanish households, conducted in March 2021, by the Family Savings Observatory joint initiative of the Fundación Mutualidad de la Abogacía and the IE Foundation. The work incorporates an analysis of the gender gap in the financial competences of the Spanish population.
