Abstract:
Virtual or mixed realities have not only been part of the game world for a long time, but are increasingly finding their place in the manufacturing industry or in education. In both cases, the basic idea of a different reality is used, and that is experiential learning. The human brain is generally more prone to remembering an image or event than in the case of learning itself. In the commercial industry, VR and AR are often used to train workers or explain new working practices during production. The education sector, apart from the programming sectors, has not been interested in the VR and the AR in the long run, also in terms of the necessary initial financial investment.

However, the pandemic situation caused by COVID-19 brought with it new possibilities and trends in teaching, and within this possibility the Faculty of Security Engineering, University of Žilina, the only university in Slovakia, decided to participate in the teaching of VR and AR and thus make safety study more attractive. The article focuses on the use of VR and AR in the educational process of the faculty as well as on the presentation of pilot preparations of materials for subjects in which VR or AR will be used.
