Abstract:
Despite what may seem, the development of a doctoral thesis is not an individual work to be done by the doctorate, it is a team work with the supervisor. It forces both the doctoral student and the director to face a huge list of jobs to complete and tasks to remember. It is necessary a coordination and communication between them in order the director provide an adequate support and track the progress of the student work.

This paper presents how the Trello web-based project management tool has been used in the development of a PhD thesis. Trello is a free tool that allows to organize tasks and projects through boards, it is based on its visualization and simplicity of implementation. Trello is a Kanban based online collaboration system, it allows to organize tasks and projects through boards. Tasks, ideas and resources are organized into columns that gain a great visibility of the work dimension. Trello lets collaborate daily in virtual way in the thesis, it allows to assign tasks, to know the state of its progress, to hold conversations, to provide constant feedback and finally to see those which have already been completed. In a short time, a large part of emails, telephone conversations and chats to notify the status of a task have been eliminated. Trello sends notifications automatically to our computer or mobile, reporting changes in the planned work.
