Abstract:
This study focuses at investigating the impact of Information and Communication Technology on the teaching and learning of English Language and Mathematics in secondary schools in Ekiti State. Nigeria and also infers the effect of the use of ICT on the academic performance of students in the two subjects. A descriptive and an Expo-factor research designs were adopted. Five model secondary schools, twenty (20) teachers and two hundred (200) students were randomly selected as samples for the study. Two questionnaire and the WAEC school certificate results for two separate periods were used as instruments for the study. Two null hypotheses were generated and data collected were analysed using percentages and chi-square (X2) statistical instruments. Findings from the study showed that, there was a significant impact of the use of ICT on teaching and learning of the two subjects. Finding also showed that, the use of ICT made a significant difference on the academic performance of students in English Language and Mathematics. The implication of these findings was that, the need for the use of ICT in secondary schools should be pursued with all vigour and sense of seriousness by the government by investing on human resources and procurement of ICT and other multi-media materials into all the secondary schools in the state if the expected improvement in our educational standard is to be realised.
