Abstract:
Food literacy, encompassing the knowledge and skills essential for informed food choices and sustainable diets, remains a topic of ongoing debate and ambiguity across various nations. This study explores the intricate relationships among social media, food literacy, and health and nutrition outcomes in India, Vietnam, and the Philippines, addressing the complex issues of malnutrition and dietary imbalances within developing contexts. Food security and nutrition deficiencies are accentuated by eating practices influenced by media and literacy. This study includes a multimethod qualitative approach with social media as a platform to understand how food literacy is distorted or constructed, thus influencing food education. This seeks to inform evidence-based policy recommendations to address the global threat of malnutrition in all its forms. This highlights the significant role of social media in shaping food education and subsequently, its effect on food choices and overall well-being in various socioeconomic contexts.
