Abstract:
One of the most important problems in the teaching of mathematics subjects at the schools of architecture is how to motivate the students. The present project was designed to enhance the students’ motivation applying some of the topics of the mathematics subjects at the Architecture.
In this work we describe the experience and the material that we have developed about the subject “Fundamentos Matemáticos en la Arquitectura” (in the first year). Specifically, we have related the topic “Matrices and Systems of Linear Equations” in the construction and design of some plain structures very common in Architecture.
The innovation of this project is that the students are the main responsible for preparing this material. The students taking part in this experience have chosen the topic and the area where to apply it. In this experience, the teachers supervise the work of the students and help them to prepare the material. In this way, we are investigating new methods to teach maths and contributing to the adaptation of the mathematics subjects on the Bologna process.
