Abstract:
As linguistics develops new area of research is carried out and it is connected with the study of various aspects of the language. For instance, computer linguistics is partially overlapped with the processing of natural languages, and is also associated with applied methods of describing and processing the language with the assistance of computer systems.
The present paper is devoted to the practical application of computer programmes Speech Analyzer and PRAAT in the experimental phonetic research that is held by students of Linguistics in Kazan Federal University.
The objective of the research projects is to develop the skills of independent work, to arouse interest and gain knowledge of English-speaking cultures, to prepare students for the use of computer technology in communication, to understand the usage of the prosodic characteristics of oral speech.
Modern means of acoustic speech signal analysis are characterized by extensive possibilities for the study of spectral, time and frequency parameters, and also estimate the intensity of the speech signal.
Computer programmes provide a lot of useful possibilities for linguists in terms of analyzing oral speech and its implementation contributes to creating favourable environment for practical research development in the field of experimental phonetics with visualization of all the processes of connected speech and the ability to control a wide range of parameters. Keywords:
