Abstract:
Nowadays the role of women in the scientific world is becoming more popular. Unfortunately, considerable disparities of gender which achieve PhD degrees are still noticeable. The disparity between women and men who achieve PhD degrees increases with the further stages of their careers. There are many causes. One of the important reasons is the role of women in family life. In most cases, the upbringing of children attracted them most. And this is associated with their temporary professional inactivity. Another reason for the disparity is the prejudice against the female sex. This leads to the blockade eg. senior positions, or finding the founds for their research. Different factors are observed in different cultures and countries.
Article points out the role of women in scientific society in the example of the International Scientific and Technical Conference Geomatics 2016. Despite the considerable differences in the number of authors of abstracts submitted to the conference - 34% of authors are women, it represent a strong position of research conducted by women. All topics presented by women within the framework of this conference are important for the development of sciences related to the broadly understood geomatics. Within the article, the authors presented the statistical analysis that allowed noticing the problem of lack of women activity in the field of geodetic scientific research. Science related to this field frequently requires specific work and increased physical activity. For example, in the case of engineering-industrial surveying, this effort is the result of time-consuming measurements in the for example construction site with the use of heavy equipment. Despite the increasing number of female engineers, women are still negatively perceived in this kind of activity. This trend is reflected not only on the professional career of women but also on their scientific work. Women usually are the most reliably part of the perfect mixed team (male/female). This is confirmed by an overview of the conference proceedings, which co-authors were women.
Today technical sciences don't have to be related with men only. Despite the niche, women cope in a world of science just as well as men. Researches carried out by them have equally high substantive value as research carried by the opposite sex. In addition, women often are the strong link in the team. Keywords:
