Abstract:
We will discuss the challenges of an international student exchange with reciprocity. The University of California Education Abroad Program (EAP) has a forty years old history of student exchanges based on reciprocity and has been a model for many more recent student exchange programs. Recently, financial and organizational reasons at the University of California have challenged the basic assumptions that EAP was based on and a new model with new assumptions is evolving.

We discuss the basic features of the new model and how it may be possible to link it with programs such as Erasmus in the future to develop a truly global student exchange.
