Abstract:
The Philippine Science High School (PSHS) together with Samsung Electronics Philippines, Corporation (SEPCO) have established the first Samsung SMART Classroom in the Philippines. With regular consultation and planning, Samsung renovated, redesigned and customized one of the PSHS – Main Campus’ classrooms, providing the same with the latest computer hardware and software, and thus creating a fully digital and interactive learning environment. The Samsung SMART Classroom goal is to enable teachers and students to collaborate in a more dynamic and modern setting while providing quick access to numerous educational tools for a greater learning experience.

PSHS was selected for this partnership as it schools the country’s most gifted student-scientists, and largely focuses on developing their skills and knowledge in math, science and technology. The PSHS was established on June 22, 1963 and arguably the most prestigious high school in the Philippines. Its main mission is to develop science and math-inclined Filipino youth to become the next scientist and mathematicians in the country.

The paper will present the design and layout of the classroom based on a number of consultations to the teachers. Classroom observations, lesson plan reviews and teacher interviews were also conducted before the construction of the classroom. Also included in the study is the result of an initial teacher perception survey of 20 teachers after they were trained on how to use the tools and the learning management system provided by SEPCO.
