Abstract:
The COVID-19 pandemic has had an unprecedented impact on the education sector globally, leading to significant changes in the ways that teaching and learning are delivered. As schools and universities were forced to shut down physical classrooms, educators and learners alike had to rapidly adapt to new ways of teaching and learning using information and communication technologies (ICT).
To better understand the scope and trends of research literature on the use of ICT in education during and after the pandemic, this paper presents a bibliometric analysis using VOSviewer software. Our analysis is based on articles published in Scopus between January 2020 and February 2023.
The results of our bibliometric analysis show a significant increase in the number of publications related to ICT use in education during the pandemic. Our analysis revealed the emergence of several themes, including e-learning, online teaching, and digital education. These themes indicate that the pandemic has served as a catalyst for the adoption of digital technologies in education, with researchers focusing on exploring the efficacy of these technologies for teaching and learning.
The study also identified the most influential authors, institutions, and journals in the field of ICT in education during the pandemic. These include well-known authors and institutions in the field of education and technology. We also found that many publications came from China, the United States, and the United Kingdom, indicating that these countries have been leading the way in research on ICT use in education during the pandemic. These findings provide valuable insights into the state of research on the use of ICT in education during the pandemic and can inform future studies and policy decisions in this area. Policymakers and education practitioners can use these findings to develop more effective and sustainable approaches to ICT use in education, especially in the context of future pandemics or other disruptions to traditional classroom settings. This has led to an increase in the number of ICT publications, in which several topics related to the period of pandemic and the role of computer tools used to counter the impossibility in most states to provide lectures in presence were analyzed.
