Abstract:
Social activity among the elderly in Poland is at a low level. Polish seniors are reluctant to engage in any forms of social activity. The authors of the paper examined the profile of social activity among women aged 75-89. The research group consisted of 300 women from the Silesian, Lesser Poland and Mazovian voivodships.

The research was conducting in the quantitative-qualitative paradigm and the following research questions were set:
- How do women define and describe social activity?
- What factors determine the social activity of the surveyed women?
- What are the barriers to social activity in the perception of the respondents?
- What needs are particularly realized through social activity?
- To what extent social activity determines the lifestyle of the respondents?

On the basis of the obtained results, the authors stated practical postulates that will enable increased involvement of the oldest generation in social activity. An important issue is the problem of defining social activity by the elderly, therefore it is reasonable to undertake a scientific discourse aimed at increasing the awareness of seniors in the domain of social activity.

Novelty in the scope of similar studies is the research group (women aged 75-89) because up to now in Poland research in this group of age has not been carried out in detail.
