Abstract:
The aging process of societies is a process that brings many challenges to many areas of social life. Nowadays, seniors are significantly different from older people from 20-30 years ago. It becomes important to learn about the determinants of the quality of life of contemporary seniors. Gerontological literature emphasizes that activity in various areas is an important element of older people's life. The subject of the paper will concern various forms and types of activity undertaken by elderly people in Poland and Canada. 100 seniors from Poland and Canada were invited for comparative research. The research focused particularly on educational activity and professional activity. Through comparative research, carried out in the quantitative-qualitative paradigm, the following research problems were answered: What are the most common forms and types of activity of Polish and Canadian seniors? Does the place of residence determine the frequency of undertaken activities? What factors determine the undertaking of various forms of activity in Poland and Canada? What are the barriers to undertaking various forms of activity in Poland and Canada? How do the surveyed seniors perceive the role of activity in their lives? In the presentation, the authors will present in detail the results of their own research.
