Abstract:
The Federal state educational standard of higher education involves the formation of future professionals a certain set of competencies, which is realized through the content of education. Standards of the third generation regulate the requirements for the forms and organization of the educational process, which leads to a review of all the components of the education system. The extracurricular work of students occupies a special place in the new educational space, the need for which is determined by the concept of standards of the third generation. The educational process and extracurricular activities mutually complement and reinforce each other, solving a single complex task - training a competent specialist.

The extracurricular work of students is any activity carried out during extracurricular time, not related to the syllabus of classroom studies and aimed at the formation and development of professionally significant qualities that contribute to their personal development, expansion and deepening of professional knowledge and skills.

At the Institute of Mathematics and Information Technology of Petrozavodsk State University the direction "Pedagogical education", training future teachers of mathematics and computer science, implements extracurricular work of students through:
- educational study practice;
- pedagogical practice;
- additional work of students not related to the main educational process.

Such forms of extracurricular work of students as participation in various events for teachers, competitions in different disciplines of subject and methodological training, organization and conduct of extracurricular activities for school students, acquaintance with the system of additional education in their subject area, etc., contribute to the acquisition students required experience for future practice.

The extracurricular work of students is an effective means to establish a stronger relationship between theory and practice and the formation of professional competencies, the development of communication skills and abilities of students, training students to perform work functions that meet the Professional standard of the teacher. Active involvement of students in extracurricular activities allows to train specialists of a higher level, and in the future contributes to better professional adaptation of graduates on workplaces.
