Abstract:
This paper presents a Course Management System, ALUD, created at the University of Deusto, Spain to promote students meaningful and autonomous learning in online settings and as a support tool in face-to-face learning environments. The added value of ALUD is that incorporates within the pedagogical model stated at Deusto University Pedagogical Framework, based on experiential, constructivist and meaningful learning principles. Deusto Learning Model follows a sequence of five stages: Experiential Context, Reflective Observation, Conceptualisation, Active Experimentation and Evaluation and shifts from a content-centred paradigm, which used to be dominant at university to a learning-centred paradigm. The paper presents some guidelines and examples of instructional design following this pedagogical model and reflects on the convenience of using such Course Management System for promoting learning.
