Abstract:

For at least half a century, higher education institutions have been concerned about academic integrity, with many researchers calling on universities to foster a culture of integrity. The purpose of this study was to determine whether a culture of academic integrity was being established in the university’s School of Business. This study presents several models for creating a culture of academic integrity and describes efforts to implement them. It also provides a process for measuring and verifying if a culture of academic integrity is being established. It showcases one model and how one university's School of Business implemented it in an online e-learning tutorial in 2018. Six years later, in 2024, School of Business students were asked about their perceptions of academic integrity amongst fellow students and whether their instructors discussed academic integrity in their courses. Student responses indicated that a culture of academic integrity was beginning to emerge in the School of Business. These results were viewed through the lens of a model of preventing academic misconduct.
