Abstract:
This paper examines the application of advanced digital technologies in education, with a focus on motion and facial capture systems used to create realistic avatars and digital human twins. As virtual learning environments continue to expand, the use of highly interactive digital representations of learners and instructors offers new pedagogical opportunities, including increased student engagement, immersive simulation training, remote participation, and individualized learning experiences. Research on virtual embodiment, particularly the concept of Sense of Embodiment (SoE), demonstrates that users can develop strong cognitive and behavioral identification with their avatars. The human brain is capable of synchronizing real actions with visual and sensory feedback in a digital environment. This not only enhances immersion and learning effectiveness but also presents new risks. A manipulated or maliciously altered avatar may influence a user’s behavior, emotions, and decision-making, creating an emerging vulnerability within educational systems. In this context, the paper explores potential cyberattacks and cyberintelligence operations that could target avatar-based learning platforms. Threats such as identity spoofing, behavioral manipulation, deepfake-based impersonation, and AI-driven psychological profiling may compromise student safety, academic integrity, and institutional trust. The study identifies key cybersecurity and ethical challenges and proposes mitigation strategies, including verification mechanisms, transparent data policies, responsible AI development, and digital literacy education aimed at recognizing synthetic media. The authors argue that safeguarding avatar-based educational systems requires not only technological protection but also an ethical framework that ensures student autonomy, privacy, and informed participation. The paper concludes by outlining future directions for secure, resilient, and ethically aligned implementation of AI-enabled avatars and digital human twins in the educational domain.
