Abstract:
MakerSpace is a place where children tinker with new ideas, experiment, and are allowed to reshape and invent the future. Using strategic concepts, the youth take on the role of researchers, exploring the art of tinkering. There is a strong emphasis on equally inspiring girls and boys for technologies and strengthening confidence in their own abilities. Enthused by this teaching format, we developed a MakerSpace for elementary school. The goal is to offer workshops where children and teenagers can explore both analog and digital technologies and engage with the interdependence of both worlds. Always with the aim of preparing our students as effectively as possible for the challenges of the 21st century. We prepare the following topics for elementary school: resource conservation, future literacy, 3D printing, mechanics, and electronics. For result assurance and documentation, we use digital portfolios filled independently by the children. These are made available to students via Pages/Word/OneNote, etc., ensuring that both analog and digital competencies are trained and nurtured.
