Abstract:
Since its onset, the COVID-19 pandemic has shown that it has several side effects that may not endanger us forthwith, directly, and immediately, but may have tangible negative consequences for our health in terms of declining physical activity, not to mention the musculoskeletal system.

The aim of the research was to determine the bulk, intensity, and type of physical activity in the movement regime of high school students, as well as the state of posture as a manifestation of the functionality of the muscular system.

The monitored sample consisted of n=187 adolescent girls (age 17.5 years). In terms of data acquisition methods, methods for physical education practice were used (the questionnaire and the area of posture were evaluated by the Klein-Thomas test, modified by Mayer).

The results significantly (p<0.1%) indicate a decreasing trend of physical activity in the movement regime of students, as well as a low intensity of PA (p<0.1%) during a pandemic, with a predominance of sedentary activities (p<0.1%). In the area of posture, we found out (p <0.1%) the III. qualitative degree (incorrect posture), which was a manifestation of dysfunction in the muscular system (p<0.1%).

Our findings (p <0.1%) also point to the relationship between non/realized physical activity and (incorrect) posture of students, which indicates a mutual relationship.

In conclusion, it can be stated that during the pandemic period to which the students are exposed, it is necessary to perceive through the primary prevention of the implementation of physical activity in the physical regime for the health of the musculoskeletal system.

The listed study is the part of research project VEGA no. “1/0519/19 Physical activity as prevention of health of school population in Slovakia”.
