Abstract:
Language policy is an important component of the general policy of any state. Language policy is aimed at protecting and developing the national language, as well as building a multilingual society. It can be considered as an effective tool to realize the idea of the coexistence of different languages in a unified social environment. At present, some international tendencies e.g. the increase of migration has a significant impact on the language policy of the state, which is to be balanced between two major foci: preservation of the national language and creating multilingual society on the basis of respect for human rights. Hence, the language policy of the state and the migration of the population are two interrelated phenomena, the further study of which seems to be relevant and topical.

The purpose of this paper is to study the language policy practices of some European countries and analyze various experience of the language policies implementation by different countries with the view of identifying effective measures aimed at protection of the national language while promoting multilingual society.
