Abstract:
The main objective of teaching and learning English at a Higher Educational Institution is the development of foreign language communicative competences that are essential for specialists-to-be in their professional activity. This objective determines the approaches, methods and technologies applied while studying English for specific purposes (ESP) at Universities. Teaching and learning as pedagogical categories are closely connected with other pedagogical notions such as personal development of students and training that can be considered as a process aimed at creating mental, physical and intellectual potential of a person. In practice these pedagogical categories are correlated and interconnected. Consequently while teaching a foreign language an instructor can develop and train learners’ personality. Realization of pedagogical objectives is integrated in practice of teaching English. The efficiency of this approach is demonstrated at the example of the practical experience of People's Friendship University of Russia.
