Abstract:
The university central student information system provides self services and administration applications to 35.000 students as well as 10.000 lecturers, academic and administrative staff. While a lot of self services are easy to use, there are also more complex applications, operations and administration processes that need to be explained in depth. So we face the challenge to train students and staff periodically to be able to complete their tasks in day to day university business.

Though this is not pure academic teaching, we do address about 5.000-35.000 "learners" too. This is why, we are investigating different aspects of MOOCs as a viable solution for IT workplace training. We like to share our experiences regarding didactic design, course content production and methods to implement and foster the training program. Furthermore we discuss similarities and differences to more familiar academic massive open online courses. Finally look into specific conditions of workplace training with learning material in the form of written documentation, video and in-place interactive tutorials, accompanying online events and assistance for participants.
