Abstract:
The study focuses on promoting linguistics among university students at the Faculty of Central European Studies of Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra, where Hungarian language teachers are also trained for Hungarian-speaking primary and secondary schools in Slovakia. The author describes the Hungarian linguistic competitions (beautiful Hungarian speech – a pronunciation/recitation competition, orthography and rhetoric competitions) organised by the Institute of Hungarian Linguistics and Literary Science at the Faculty, in which students actively participate. The winning students also represent Constantine the Philosopher University in the final (international) round of the competitions held in Hungary. The study also emphasises the importance of scientific student conferences, where students are keen to write research papers on linguistic topics. The best-ranked papers get published in the scientific student conference proceedings, and some research results are also presented at national and international conferences organised by the Institution. In addition to theoretical knowledge, the curriculum of linguistics subjects is highly practice-oriented, with opportunities for linguistic research in some subjects. The author also points out that promoting linguistics in university education positively impacts students' linguistic and cultural development. Keywords:
