Abstract:
The goal of the modern education system in Russia in the context of a developing digital society is to create opportunities for citizens of different ages and social status to receive quality education using modern information and communication technologies. The realization of this goal is impossible without the presence of a certain level of formation of computer literacy of the individual and society as a whole.

By computer literacy of a student, we mean the degree of knowledge of computer hardware and software for the purpose of using it in educational, research and future professional activities, as well as his readiness to master new information and communication technologies.

The article discusses the experience of conducting entrance testing of computer literacy of first-year students studying at the Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communication of the Kazan Federal University who train pedagogical education, philology, and professional education. During 2018-2021 622 students, who had been studying the courses “Information technologies in education”, “Computer science”, “Information technologies”, took part in the entrance testing.

Based on the results of testing, it was revealed that students' computer literacy was formed mainly at the average level. The most successful students coped with questions on two out of five topics: file system and file structure, technologies for creating and processing multimedia presentations. The data obtained made it possible to correct the process of teaching students in order to eliminate gaps in knowledge, to correct the depth of study of those sections of Computer science and information technologies for which low results were obtained.
