Abstract:
Since February 2020, TU Kosice (Slovakia) has switched from full-time to distance learning due to the Covid 19 pandemic. During a short period when the epidemiological situation in Slovakia improved, which was at the beginning of the academic year 2021/2022, the teaching was combined for three weeks. During this period, studio work belonged to the group of full-time courses. The collaboration of the student team on a common 3D model of the building was provided during the full-time teaching form via the server of the Laboratory of Digitization and Virtualization in Construction. After the transition to the distance learning form, it was necessary to provide a collaborative environment for the teaching of studio design, in which students solved a team BIM project.

The design of a methodological procedure for working on a team BIM project was one of the tasks of the educational project KEGA - 059TUKE-4/2017 "Supporting the skills in use of BIM technology in a building life-cycle", which was solved at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of TU Kosice in 2017-2019. The basis for the solution of the task was basic information about BIM and its application in the life cycle of construction, information about the content of the documentation EIR (Employer's Information Requirements) and BEP (BIM Execution plan), as well as curricula and pedagogical documentation of the courses of individual study programs. One of the outcomes of the project was the specification of the strategic intent from the perspective of the participants in the teaching process. Practical outputs were the summarized input information and outputs of the BIM project from the perspective of the building professions, necessary for the organization of work on a team project solved in the framework of studio work or thesis. The project funds were used to purchase data repositories for centralised collection of processed virtual 3D models of building elements and structures and a high-performance computer for processing BIM models.

Currently, another KEGA project No. 038TUKE-4/2020 "Supporting the platform Construction 4.0 through adoption of digital technologies in the learning process", established for the three-year period 2020-2022, is being solved at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of TU Kosice. Also in this project, one of the specified tasks is to support students' management and communication skills and abilities for teamwork. The practical application is team-based problem solving, projects and final theses. Another benefit of the projects and a great help for the students is the possibility to use the cloud environment for teamwork, purchased from the funds of the current KEGA project.

The paper describes the process of adaptation to the new conditions forced by the pandemic situation. The reactions to the situation are documented as results of a questionnaire survey.
