Abstract:
Today's global challenge is to innovate and digitize the learning process, bringing a qualitatively higher form of education, especially in engineering. In the field of construction, the 21st century brought a 3D virtual environment for building design as well as new software tools for modelling and simulating the technical and technological parameters of building structures. Building Information Modelling (BIM) is increasingly used in the construction lifecycle. Progress in the field of digitization of construction needs to be transformed into teaching specialized subjects of bachelor and master education.

The aim of the educational activities presented in the paper was to create suitable conditions for the implementation of 3D modelling in the subject of Building Process Technology at the bachelor level of higher education at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Technical University in Košice (Slovakia). Teaching innovation has required changes in both technical and staffing of the learning process. Educational activities are concretized on an example of a construction exercise where students solve the process of assembling the reinforced concrete structure of a building.

In innovative teaching conditions, students can better understand the subject matter, information technologies, develop their skills, apply knowledge, solve problems, develop creative thinking, and acquire skills in working with software tools in 3D digital environments. Innovation of teaching supports the competences of graduates, necessary for the performance of their future occupations in construction practice.
