Abstract:
The construction industry has increasingly responded to challenge that more sustainable buildings can be delivered more efficiently only through implementation of Building Information Modelling (BIM) into practice. Hence, graduates of civil engineering studies should become familiar with BIM technology and achieve relevant knowledge and skills.

Based on literature review and experiences from studies of foreign universities can be concluded that a team-based learning strategy may help students grow crucial BIM knowledge and skills and obtain a better learning through role play in the context of a real BIM project. One from basic premises of BIM is collaboration by different stakeholders at different phases of the life cycle of a facility from conceptual planning and designing to facility disposal. The integration of BIM learning and team-based learning is supposed to improve the teaching effectiveness of construction knowledge and skills in science but especially in collaboration and practice.

A group of students in the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Košice is included into a subject established on the team-based learning strategy and oriented on construction projects designing and management. Such learning should improve their knowledge and transversal skills in all construction participants’ cooperation. This is one from representative opportunities to integrate the BIM technology into team-based learning of engineering students. The paper focuses on this team-based learning subject and suggests the necessity of such integration.

In practice, elaboration and implementation of BIM Execution Plan (BEP) presents the basis for successful practicability of project through BIM technology. At the same, the BEP is inevitable for communication and collaboration of students in educational process of the above-mentioned subject. A very useful analysis of BEP principles and documentation is presented and discussed in the paper.
