Abstract:
Artificial intelligence (AI) technologies have emerged in recent years as innovative tools in the fields of research and academia. While they offer utility in information retrieval and providing swift answers across a wide range of subjects, their integration into the academic environment remains elusive due to potential risks. One major concern revolves around the challenge of distinguishing the work produced by students themselves from that generated by AI tools. This raises the risk of diminishing the personal and original nature of scholarly investigations. However, AI tools can serve as valuable assets in enhancing student engagement in classrooms, thereby boosting their motivation and attendance in the respective subjects.
In this abstract, we present a novel approach for incorporating AI tools into the classroom. Specifically, we propose that students utilize Chat GPT to assess the research projects conducted by their classmates. These projects should focus on the topics covered in the lectures and be completed without any assistance from AI tools. Each student will individually present their research work to both their classmates and the teacher. Subsequently, the audience will make questions to the presenter to evaluate the quality of the work and the presenter's understanding of the topic. Since the classmates have limited knowledge in those specific topics, they will utilize Chat GPT to formulate questions and assess the research.
The objective of this proposal is three-fold: Firstly, to introduce an AI tool in the classroom that aids in the retrieval and verification of scientific information. Secondly, to foster active student participation in scientific discussions. Thirdly, to emphasize the significance of the effort exerted in searching and selecting the most relevant documentation for the topic under investigation, recognizing the importance of personal learning in shaping our knowledge acquisition and progression. This highlights the value of personal growth along the knowledge curve.
