Abstract:
Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) is currently boosting the creation of new multimedia educational resources and improving the way teachers transfer knowledge to their students. Multimedia offers the potential to improve the learning process of students in online, blended and face-to-face courses. A teaching process in TEL usually consists of the creation of educational resources by the teachers and their use by students. Likewise, the assessment process follows the same behavior in which the teachers provide the educational resources and the students use them. In order to enhance the teaching, learning and assessment processes together with the students’ participation and involvement in them we proposed a new methodology. This methodology is based on the usage of multimedia resources in the all three processes, teaching, learning and assessment.
In this paper we will explain this methodology and how we have applied it to the “International Seminars on Materials Science” online course. This course is based on the development of seminars that disseminate current and outstanding issues within the area of Materials Science and Engineering from biological materials to purely technological applications. The application of the methodology explained in the paper to the “International seminars on Materials Science” course gives rise to five activities that involve both the teacher and the students. These activities will motivate them and make them aware of the power involved in learning and collaborative work. Furthermore, they can improve the students' skills in communication, computing, public speaking, writing, performance, presentation design, documentation, critical thinking, knowledge applying and synthesizing. Due to our methodology consisting of many activities, different data can be collected from any of them to assess the efficacy, the students' participation and motivation and finally to grade them. Keywords:
