Abstract:
Psychomotor skills play a crucial role in STEM education, enabling students to bridge theoretical knowledge with practical application. Traditional teaching methods often fall short in addressing the nuanced requirements of psychomotor skill development, such as precision, coordination, and adaptive learning. This paper explores the design and development of an Intelligent Tutoring System (ITS) for psychomotor tasks, leveraging Extended Reality (XR) technologies and psychological principles to enhance learning outcomes. The ITS platform is co-designed with educators, psychologists, and students, ensuring it is tailored to diverse user needs and educational contexts.

The proposed platform integrates immersive XR environments to simulate real-world scenarios, enabling learners to practice complex tasks in a safe, controlled, and adaptive virtual space. Grounded in cognitive and behavioral psychology, the system incorporates real-time feedback, error detection, and adaptive difficulty to personalize learning paths. Additionally, the co-design process fosters collaboration and user-centric innovation, ensuring the platform is intuitive, engaging, and effective in developing psychomotor expertise.

This paper presents the conceptual framework, design methodology, and implementation of the ITS platform, along with a case study demonstrating its application in STEM education. The findings highlight the potential of combining XR and psychological insights to revolutionize psychomotor skill training, promoting deeper learning and bridging the gap between theory and practice.
