Abstract:
Berklee College of Music is an international university with more than 70 years of experience in music and creative technology located in Boston (USA). Berklee started his innovative campus in Valencia (Spain) in 2012 offering undergraduate education and Master Programs in musical performance, technology, business and film scoring. Berklee Valencia students come from over 100 different countries, representing a wide variety of cultures from all continents. The Students'Affairs department (SA) soon realized that BCM international students had particular needs to maintain their physical-mental health during their time in Spain. Data related to the mental and physical health of more than 350 students was collected in the first years to study the type of medical-psychological needs. The results showed that BCM students require a prevention strategy, a multidisciplinary team and a strong collaboration with medical-health entities in Valencia to offer rapid action on situations of crisis. Findings and collaborations helped creating a specialized group; the “Health Care Partners” that currently serves as a student’s platform to reach health specialized services in Spain. Overall, more than 2,500 students benefited. Of them, hundreds of students received both medical treatment and psychological therapy or counseling from 2012-2019. Benefits from these clinical and prevention services included improving the health of the international students and reduce harm related to contextual-environmental risks. Keywords:
