Abstract:
The article discusses gender characteristics of the process of formation professional values and career orientations of students studying engineering specialties. The subject of the study are students of engineering programs with low representation of women, such as mechanical engineering, materials science, metallurgy. The main source of empirical data was a survey implemented in May-June 2019 using a questionnaire on the Google form platform among bachelor's degrees of Ural Federal University. A comparative analysis of the motives of women's and men's professional education elections, professional plans and career expectations of students is carried out. The study of the orientations and priorities of the young generation in the sphere of work makes it possible to determine the content and direction of labour activity, to determine the peculiarities of the male and female model of future employment.

It has been found that the influence of gender stereotypes is most pronounced in the reasons for choosing an educational program and in the assessments of the future desired model of employment. The male model of future employment is defined as "profitable work," and the female model is "convenient work." Achieving work-life balance is assessed by male and female students as one of the most important life priorities.
