Abstract:
When it comes to writing skills, we should think less about Artificial Intelligence and more about Intelligent Assistance. The goal with writing and editing technology is not to replace the writer, it is to improve their process, making it more efficient and effective. The technology should free up time and effort so students can focus on the subject matter.

Good writing is about much more than just good grammar. Most of us have seen examples of students being overly verbose in an attempt to demonstrate knowledge, teachers prefer to see clarity of thought reflected in clear language. Writing style improvements can help build the strength of students’ ideas and arguments by highlighting issues such as passive voice, overused words, repetitiveness, and more. Editing technology should have two purposes: 1) to help students make fewer errors, and 2) to help students improve their understanding of good writing technique.
