Abstract:
In May 2017 for the first time a team from the Faculty of Civil Engineering of Cracow University of Technology (Poland) organized the “Przepis na miasto” (ang. “Recipe for the city”) multidisciplinary workshop. A group of students from several Polish universities participated in the workshop. They were not typical workshop – it was marathon of urban planning in authorial CITY24 formula. Inspiration of this formula had been hackathon. In the paper, the author wants to present idea of this formula and results of the workshop.

Students had exact 24 hours for preparing conception of spatial development and transportation service for some area in Cracow. Students rivaled in six groups and they were supported by a panel of experts from Faculty of Civil Engineering and Faculty of Architecture. The end product of the workshop was six charts and mockups of fragments of Cracow’s Stare Dębniki and Salwator districts. The fact that the work had a multidisciplinary character was crucial: the students represented branches of engineering associated with transport, spatial management, and urban and architectural design across two levels of higher education (Bachelor, Master). The overall goals of the workshop were to connect the two banks of the Vistula river, to analyze urban transport system integration, and to propose changes in the selected public spaces.

This formula has shown students that 24 hours of strenuous work is enough to prepare general ides for development of the city. Success of first edition caused organizing second edition in 2018.
