Abstract:
The formation of basic work skills and habits of pupils throughout the school education is carried out mainly through technically oriented subjects. Technology is a subject that, by its content and character, provides an opportunity to develop the cognitive and psychomotor aspects of the pupil's personality at primary schools in the Slovak Republic.

The aim of the course is to prepare pupils for life in practice and to be able to find a job in the future. Pupils acquire basic work skills and habits from different fields of technology. They organize, plan work and learn to use appropriate tools, implements and aids at work. The subject prepares pupils for practical life from various fields of technology such as: technical materials, graphic communication in technology, electrical engineering, electronics, and household machinery and equipment.

The aim of the paper is to present the results of the research focused on the skills of pupils of the 7th year of elementary school (13-year-old pupils), who in the thematic unit technical materials using a technical drawing should produce a specific product - angle. The skills of the pupils to which the authors focus in the paper are as follows: to be able to read the technical drawing, to correctly name the assigned material, to correctly assemble the work procedure, to select the appropriate tools for working the material and to make the product - the angle. As research methods, observation by means of an observation sheet and evaluation of a product made by pupils using a scoring system are used. Obtained results are processed by descriptive statistics and evaluated by graphs.
At the end of the paper, the authors compare the obtained results with the results of other authors, who were engaged in the research of psychomotor skills and form their own conclusions based on these comparisons.
